If God had a country to himself, I'm not sure he would not encourage the growth of homosexuality to the extent that it even results in a marriage. A marriage is an approval of a union between 2 people and traditionally, it refers to such a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of having children otherwise known as procreation.
One good example of God's historic disapproval of homosexuality was shown in the bible when the angels visited Lot in the city of Sodom and men of the town were blinded by them when they tried to forcibly have sex with them.
God sent his angels to save a man named Lot because he belonged to a tribe that had dedicated themselves to God even though he was living among sinful men. God went ahead to destroy the city of Sodom and saved only a few men because of their many sins which included mostly sexual sins such as homosexuality, adultery and fornication. Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed by war or famine but by fire falling from the skies and a lot of the city were damaged.
The United States of America is popularly referred to as God's own country not just by Americans but by fans worldwide and there is a reason for it. The nation was built by mostly Christians who migrated from Europe and founded the nation based on Christian principles. It was probably because of the dedication of Americans to the worship of their Christian God that made them a word power both economically and militarily. Even till the 21st Century, the United States is still considered a powerful nation but things have been gradually changing in this country that had for long been called God's own country.
In the past, things like abortion and homosexuality were frowned at by the mostly Christian society and in some cases would even be punishable by death although unlawfully. I agree, it's never a good solution to kill someone just because he/she is gay. Gay people have a right to live afterall, it's God that let them be but I think, the straight people need to protect their society and what their ideals by at least stopping the degrading of what traditional marriage ought to be through the use of public institutions that are also meant to protect them. Not everyone would want to live in a society where there is a public display of sexual affection between gay people or would want to do anything such as offering services that would support the activities of gay people. Straight people also have a right to choose who to associate with and who not to associate with without been sued to court for their choices.
Prior to the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage, some states in the USA disapproved of gay marriage and I think God would thank them for that because it's their Christian obligation to do so but to now try to force them to do what goes against their religious rights and beliefs through the same Supreme court that is meant to protect them is not really justified.
I'm not saying that gay people don't have a right to be gay but in a country that is called God's own country and built based on Christian principles, being gay isn't something the Supreme court should be exactly supporting since it goes against Christian principles and God's will.
The Christian God we know of doesn't approve of homosexuality or even gay marriage and for a government that has been voted in by Christians to be supporting gay marriage is to kill the Christian spirit the United States was built upon.
Is the USA still a Christian state? Has the moral fabric of America been torn apart? Are the no more Christians living in God's own country again? Why keep voting for a government that doesn't guarantee your religious liberty?
While the Supreme court ruling on gay marriage may have been a victory for gay activists in the United states, it may not bring long term peace to the nation that still has a lot of Christians who believe that it's wrong and should not be encouraged.
While I don't support the killing or elimination of gay Americans, I do support the idea that it's morally wrong and that they require some form of reform such as alcoholics and drug abuse victims do. We could create a health institution where they could go to for reform before being accepted back into the society. Another alternative may be to simply allow them live in a different region away from where straight people do so that both parties may not have to offend each other by their different lifestyles.

Prayer against guns and bullets
When this prayer is made in faith, it can protect the petitioner from the powers of guns and bullets using the supernatural power that comes from God.
"Almighty God, to whom all natural powers are subject to. We glorify you and acknowledge your ultimate power over all that you have created and all that man has made.
Man made guns using the limited knowledge that you have given him. These guns have the natural power to fire bullets and cause physical bodily harm.
However, we believe that your supernatural power overshadows the power of nature. Yes, your supernatural power is higher than nature and this was shown through your Son, Jesus Christ who was able to walk on water, defying gravity and mortality to also rise from the dead and ascend into heaven.
We pray that the power of guns, bullets and evil men may have no effect on our lives. We pray that anytime a gun or bullet is used to attack us, it would be powerless and harmless.
We pray that no weapons used against us shall be successful and that you fight against those who fight against us Oh Lord.
We ask this through Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in union with the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever, Amen".

How to be Holy through prayer
In all Christian generations, the Saints have always know that it is only through prayer that man can rise above sin and grow in Holiness and hence the saying, "A prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian."
What does it mean to be holy? What does holiness imply? I see it as a state of being filled with thoughts, words and deeds that are entirely focused on goodness or the will of God. Yes, it is a state of being without sin and being close to the almighty God in spirit.
Prayer is the key to a holy life and the reason why a lot of people are not Holy as they ought to be is simply because they don't pray as they ought to. Prayer is a spiritual activity connects man's spirit to God using words and thoughts.
Prayer is the only power man has to connect with God. It is through prayer that man can ask God first of all for forgiveness. Through prayer that man can ask for graces and through prayer that man can get eternal life. The Truth is that God can do everything but would not force himself on us. The only thing he has given us is the ability to pray and it is always within our power.
It is through prayer that we can beg God for his help and it is a gift which he has freely bestowed on us. Yes, prayer is a gift and he hears us when we call him in faith.
The more you pray, the more holy you will become and the less you pray, the less holy you'll become. The Son of God doesn't just ask us to be holy but he asks us to be holy, just as God is Holy.
If you ask me, that is a tall order - to be holy just as God is. It shows that we have a duty to aim not just to be holy but to be just as God is.
How does one achieve holiness through prayer?
It is quite simple. Just pray and pray and pray as if it's the only job you have on earth.
Some people pray only in the morning. Some pray only in the afternoon and some at night. However the Lord urges us to pray at all times and this means that prayer should be a primary activity you should so.
When you pray, ask God for forgiveness because he loves a humble person. Don't come to God as if you are alike when you are a sinner. God avoids being close to sinners except when they are humble. So one of the ways you can easily call God's attention is to recognize your faults and constantly ask for mercy.
If you've been spending 10 mins in prayer everyday, I bet it's time you start spending at least 1hr. 1 hr everyday in prayer would certainly make a difference in your life than if you have spent only 10 mins.
If you feel unsatisfied with your level of holiness, the only thing you need to do is spend more time in prayer. It may not be at a stretch, you can spend 15 mins every 1 hr or 5 mins every 30 mins. Some people even spend 6 hrs in prayer every day and that's why they are more holy.
Holiness is simply a function of prayer and the more time you spend in prayer, the more holy you will become. If you are still living in mortal sin on a daily or weekly basis, then you should increase the amount of time you spend in prayer. The more holy you become, the easier it will be for you to overcome sin. If only sinners would recognize that all they need is God's constant touch.
First analyze how much time you spend in prayer and increase the time spent. You will be surprised to see that you holiness would improve over a short period of time.

Disciplining the Flesh
Today is all Saints day and one of the issues I would want to write about is on how to discipline the flesh.
As a Christian, you should know that you have three principal enemies: The flesh, the world and evil spirits. If you fail to have control over your flesh, it would only end up controlling you, leading you to offend the Lord.
It is very impossible to go to heaven or survive the Christian battle if you cannot at least overcome the first principal enemy - The flesh.
The flesh is something closest to you. It's your self and if you cannot overcome and control yourself, it would only end up as a wild animal and then devour you.
The flesh is like an animal and needs to be trained in order to under control. It is like a little child that needs discipline or else he/she would turn up bad.
In this context, the flesh represents all vain things that pleases our physical body but does no good to our souls. Things like gluttony, adultery, fornication, masturbation, self love, abortion, laziness, prayerlessness and so on. The flesh is the weakened state of man as a result of the scars of original sin which we inherited from Adam. Since then, man's nature has become that of sin and it really needs grace in order to overcome it.
One of the ways by which the Saints disciplined their flesh was by fasting. This involved going without food for a time being in order to focus on the spirit. Look at it this way, someone who chooses not to eat is denying his flesh of something basic to his survival. He tells his flesh that it will get food when the master decides. Fasting helps keep you in control over your flesh as you don't give to it, everything it asks for.
One of the sins that offend God greatly are the sins of the flesh since it defiles God's very own temple which is our body. We were created for God and he would only get jealous if we fail to take control of our own body.
The Saints took control of their flesh
=====================================
When you read the history and life of popular saints in the church, you'd find that most of them were involved in some form of physical mortification such as working long hours, fasting, praying and abstinence. Those are the common ways of disciplining the flesh.
In our modern world, there seems to be a lot of things that make us weak to sin such as prayerlessness, love for money, too much tv, peer pressure, party lifestlye, fashion and so on. These things are the weapon which the devil is using to overcome us. If only we knew that, then we'd wake up and take control of the situation.
Jesus overcame the flesh
=========================
One of the first things Jesus did before beginning his ministry after John's baptism was to overcome his flesh and this he did by going into the desert. It was written that he fasted for 40 days and forty nights after being led by the Spirit. So, the spirit is willing to lead us, if only we are willing to follow. If the spirit leads you to fast, then you should fast.
Some Ways to discipline your flesh
===============================
- Eating and drinking with moderation. Better to avoid alcohol
- Fasting and abstinence
- Long hours in prayer
- Less tv time
- Doing good work
- Not Living in too much comfort. Sharing with the poor
- Avoiding the sin of lust. Control the heart and occasions of lust.
- More scriptural study
- Listening to Christian music.
I hope this helps.

Does going to church qualify as good work?
Some people say going to church does not guarantee salvation and some also may say it is not even necessary but are any of these opinions really true?
If you ask me, I would say that going to church does qualify as a good work as long as you do it with the right intention. You are on the right track of getting saved.
What does going to church involve or why do people go to church?
We need to first of all take a look at the passover feast which Jesus first had with his apostles and which the apostles had kept on repeating till our modern day - the breaking of bread. He instituted a new passover feast for his Christians and commanded them to always do it in memory of him.
Let's also go back to the acts of the apostles after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his commissioning to the disciples to love one another and to go into the world, preach the gospel and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
After Christ has resurrected and ascended into heaven, the disciples kept the tradition of constantly meeting together to share things in common and to the breaking of bread.
So Jesus has always wanted his church to meet constantly in order to eat together, pray and share things in common.
In the gospel he also gave a tip to his disciples on the importance of community prayer and how to make prayer really effective. He says, "Where 2 or 3 of you ask the father anything in my name, he will grant it". So God never refuses prayers of people who pray to him as a community although he may refuse the prayers of a single person. That is why in church, prayers reach their most powerful peak since they easily pierce into heaven and God hears it.
Sundays are the only day of the week which many societies in our modern world have chosen to dedicate as a work free day so that we who are human and being also a spiritual being would have time to worship God. Religion is a vital aspect of humanity and that's what makes us different from the animals.
Most animals tend to walk on their 4 feet and tend to look down because they are dust alone. Man is however different, we walk upright and tend to look upwards because we are not just dust alone - we are also spirit and believe in a spirit power. So man needs to worship God to feel complete.
So going to church does qualify as a good work and can merit us heaven if we do it right by worshipping God and enjoying his presence. In our busy world of today, there seems to be not much time for God despite the fact that we have built a lot of castles for him. We also need to visit him at Church heaven though he everywhere because church is the place that we have solely dedicated to the worship of God.
People don't ask you what you are doing at church because logically, anyone who goes to church is probably going to worship God and pay some form of respect. So going to church is a good thing and we need to do it with love for God and his people who we meet there.
Some benefits of going to Church on Sundays
- It draws down God's weekly blessing upon us
- We get spiritually re-invigorated
- Our faith is renewed
- Our sins are forgiven
- Our prayers become more effective as God answers
- We share out faith with fellow Christians
- We get more power to survive the week's battle
- Opportunity to worship God in spirit and truth
- We eat at the Lord's table

Nime Jesu: Before the cross
There is strength in meditating before the sacred crucifix and there's one at the tabernacle in my church.
The crucifix is s symbol of faith. It reminds us of the fact that Jesus died so that we might be free. He accepted death on the cross even though he didn't deserve it.
In our modern world, there are many things that could easily distract us from our eternal goal. Our aim is not for this world since all mankind is simply passing by. No one inherits this world since it would last for only a moment. The eternal place is where we should be focused on and conscious of.
So while certain things in this world like family, news, television, entertainment and money can distract us, sacred things like the crucifix can actually convert us to full attention.
There is a reason why we are here and mediating before the cross of Christ can help keep us focused - We are destined for heaven.
There is power in making the sign of the cross. There is power in meditating before the crucifix and I've felt this power many times over.
I recall a time when I was sitting close to the altar meditating before a huge crucifix hanging above the tabernacle. It was as if my eyes were opened and I the man on the cross came alive and started moving his lips. It was as if he was praying to God. I was a bit fascinated and a bit scared at what I saw happening. I guess Jesus allowed me to see that so that I may have more faith in his presence. It can be scary when God reveals certain things to us. After a while, the man became still again. The bottom line was that Jesus is truly present wherever his cross is venerated or meditated upon. It was a spiritual experience.
There is a lot we can gain from admiring God's presence and we can obtain true sorrow for our sin too if we meditate and worship deeply before the cross of Christ.
Before the cross:
- We can obtain perfect contrition for our sin
- We can meet with Jesus and talk with his as a friend
- We can truly touch heaven
- We can obtain sanctity for our souls
- Our prayers can become more effective
- We can grow in holiness
- We can grow stronger against sin
- Our meditation can become more powerful

A 100 years is a short time
You may live to be a 100 years and for many, it may seem like a long time. In reality, however, a 100 years is a really short time when you think back and see that there were men who lived to be over 500 years.
It seems the close the world gets to its end, the shorter human life span becomes. God placed a curse on man's life by shortening it and he still sends plaques to shorten man's earthly life and this is nothing but punishment for sin.
If you were blessed even to be a friend of God and live up to a 100 years, would that be enough for you do prove your worth? Would you bear good witness to God in this life which is but a route to our final destination?
A 100 years is a really short time and even many men nowadays don't live up to it as many have started dying from even 30 years. We don't know what the future holds for us in this world but we do know that armageddon is coming and the past will always be better than the present.
What really matters is not how long you live on earth but on how great a witness you've been to Jesus. Every true Christian comes to the light and makes his mark on the sands of time so that on resurrection day, even the world will bear witness that you belong to Christ.
There are a lot of people dying everyday and many are still being born. Of those who die, many of them will soon be forgotten but only very few will be remembered for the great works they did while on earth.
When ordinary men die, they are soon forgotten but when great men die, their names are written in history. Seek that greatness then in the kingdom of heaven. Make your mark known. Let the world bear witness even that you belong to the light.
Time is going and really waits for no one. Time is one thing we need ot use wisely when we have it for the dead have no time again.
