The Catholic Church and Homosexuality

It is alarming the way some parts of the world treat homosexuality as if it were an acceptable thing. In countries like Nigeria, everybody knows that it is a great evil in the eyes of God and goes against the moral fabric of the society. To even go to the extent of legalizing things like homosexuality and abortion like some western countries do is to simply call down fires from heaven from a Nigerian Christian's point of view. Things like that are not likely in Nigeria but with the way western media seems to encourage or influence it under the guise of equal human rights amounts more to encouraging global moral decadence.

Homosexuality is a great evil and an inordinate and behaviour. It is not a new sin. It has been there since the early human life and God never encouraged it. It was for this reason that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the same sin spoken of in the letter of St. Paul to the Romans 1.18, 27 "God's anger is revealed against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known ..Men do shameful things with each other and as a result, they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for wrongdoing."

The truth is that no true Christian would encourage homosexuals but would see it as an offence against God and try to overcome it. It is like an addiction and like Jesus says, everyone who commits sin becomes a slave to sin same thing with this kind of sin. People who indulge in it become slaves and can only be redeemed by a spiritual force. They really need prayers but for some people to be encouraging it as normal and acceptable is even a greater evil.

The Church has constantly spoken against this not necessarily to condemn the victims but to encourage them to repent and overcome their bad habits. It is one thing to do something and another thing to know that what you did is bad but to even be blinded by a false teaching that homosexuality if normal is the worst kind of state to be in.
