In the scriptures, we read of how our Lord overcome the devil after he was taken to a high mountain and tempted. He was just too powerful for the devil to overcome him.
The Devil is not God's negative
Some people make the erroneous mistake of quantifying the devil as having a near equal magnitude of power to God but in an evil way. It is nothing but a pure lie. The devil is not the direct opposite of God nor is he infinite. The truth is that his powers are limited and so are his temptations.
The Devil is not responsible for all our sins
Some people also make the erroneous mistake of blaming the devil for every sin they commit. This is also a lie, some of the sins we commit, we do on our own and not all of them are temptations by the devil but we are all given equal freedom to choose to do good or evil.
Baptism and faith as our victory
The truth is that you have already overcome the devil when you believe that he is limited. Don't exaggerate his power. He is infact more jealous of you, not just because you are a child of the woman, but also because you are a soldier of Jesus Christmas. At Baptism, your first defeat has already began but you need to still keep on fighting.
Evil and devils are not as powerful as you think and choosing the dark side will only make you a miserable enemy of God because winners are always on his side.
Use the Cross
There is a lot of hidden mysteries behind the cross and there are various ways I could explain it. Nature even bears witness of the cross when you see birds in the air flying in cross-form with their wings flapped out. You find out that even no machine built by man can fly like birds without taking the form of a cross. It is seen in the relationship between the Father, His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit - Three in One. You also see it as the completion of our salvation when Christ died for us, who even foresaw that his death would take the form of a cross. In all these, the Holy Spirit is saying something and revealing secrets to us. We need to use the cross to overcome the world and bring God's Kingdom to reign here.
So as a Christian, there are several other ways to overcome the devil and this includes making the sign of the cross. The devil does not like the cross of Christ and always seeks to persecute it or say something evil about it, spit around it and look with disgust. It makes him weak and powerless, but take away the cross and he fights gallantly. So if you ever find yourself in a very troubling situation that could lead to evil, just make the sign of the cross saying "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Hold Spirit" and you would see the glory of God. Using the cross to fight the devil can also be done by seeing the cross as a form of self denial such that we would have more self control over what out body wants as Christ warned, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" so you can overcome evil by dominating your body and one way to do this is by fasting and praying.
Faith is also an essential part of your fight against the devil for with faith, doors open and your pierce your enemies. Even a little faith can do wonders as long as you hold onto it steadily after all, you have nothing to lose if you have faith. But for someone who doesn't have faith, he has everything to loose so never let the devil find you without faith
