How to go to Confession

Confession in catholic faith is that act of telling your sins to a Catholic priest out of sorrow in order to get forgiveness from God.

Confession is an act of faith in the Church's sacraments since we believe that God will forgive us our sins, if we are repentant and ask for forgiveness.

In Nigeria, here is the way by which Christians go to confess their sins in church:
The penitent approaches the confessional and says to the priest,
"Bless me father, for I have sinned
Tell the priest your sins out of sorrow

Forgive me father for I have finished, for this and all the sins of my past of life which I cannot now remember, I am sorry for them"

He listens to the priest's advice and the penance he gives as a form of amendment for your sins
The person says an act of contrition, "O my God, because you are so Good, I am very sorry that I have sinned against you and by the help of your grace, I will not sin again"

He receive the priest's absolution/forgiveness prayer by making a sign of the cross and saying Amen.

The priest says, "Go in peace".

The the person goes in peace and does his penance".

Three things necessary for a good confession
====================================
- Contrition: Feeling sorry for your sins
- Confession: Confess all your mortal sins and venial sins that you remember
- Satisfaction: Doing the penance issued to your by the priest
