There is a book called Glories of Mary written by Alphonsus Ligouri but I just want to share in general terms. The Truth is that God had always desired to save the world and because of this sent his messengers before hand to prepare the way.
In spite of all God did, some people still did not want to acknowledge him and so he predestined a body through which he would enter the world. He predestined a human body even before it was born.
After the fall of Adam, all men were born into sin and so he predestined a human body which was supernaturally conceived without sin - Immaculate conception. God chose the Virgin Mary, even before she was born to be her mother and to be the portal through which he would enter the world
God had the power to do this, it was fitting that he should do this, therefore he did it.
It was fitting that the body which would bear the Lord be free from the guilt of eve and of pure blood like at creation. The only time God created a second eve was in Mary signifying that he was about to take flesh.
God chose Mary and chose to come to the world through Mary so that through Mary, the world will return to God.
Does Mary have the power to save? Yes and she has urged us to use her tools such as the Rosary and the scapular. Being the mother of God, she is also Co-Redeemer and indeed the Mediatrix of all graces. The Angel Gabriel acknowledged the Glory found in Mary, even though she was human, by calling her full of God.
In August, the church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin who after the completion of her earthly life was taken up, body and soul. Mary's tomb is said to have been filled with flowers but her body was not there and did not see corruption.
The Church talks about the Assumption of our Lady in the following way:
"By the Authority of our Lord Jesus Christ
Of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul
And by Our own authority
We Solemnly declare and define it to be
A heavenly revealed dogma
That the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin
After the completion of her earthly life
Was taken up into heaven
Body and Soul".
