Gay marriage in God's own country

If God had a country to himself, I'm not sure he would not encourage the growth of homosexuality to the extent that it even results in a marriage. A marriage is an approval of a union between 2 people and traditionally, it refers to such a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of having children otherwise known as procreation.

One good example of God's historic disapproval of homosexuality was shown in the bible when the angels visited Lot in the city of Sodom and men of the town were blinded by them when they tried to forcibly have sex with them.

God sent his angels to save a man named Lot because he belonged to a tribe that had dedicated themselves to God even though he was living among sinful men. God went ahead to destroy the city of Sodom and saved only a few men because of their many sins which included mostly sexual sins such as homosexuality, adultery and fornication. Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed by war or famine but by fire falling from the skies and a lot of the city were damaged.

The United States of America is popularly referred to as God's own country not just by Americans but by fans worldwide and there is a reason for it. The nation was built by mostly Christians who migrated from Europe and founded the nation based on Christian principles. It was probably because of the dedication of Americans to the worship of their Christian God that made them a word power both economically and militarily. Even till the 21st Century, the United States is still considered a powerful nation but things have been gradually changing in this country that had for long been called God's own country.

In the past, things like abortion and homosexuality were frowned at by the mostly Christian society and in some cases would even be punishable by death although unlawfully. I agree, it's never a good solution to kill someone just because he/she is gay. Gay people have a right to live afterall, it's God that let them be but I think, the straight people need to protect their society and what their ideals by at least stopping the degrading of what traditional marriage ought to be through the use of public institutions that are also meant to protect them. Not everyone would want to live in a society where there is a public display of sexual affection between gay people or would want to do anything such as offering services that would support the activities of gay people. Straight people also have a right to choose who to associate with and who not to associate with without been sued to court for their choices.

Prior to the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage, some states in the USA disapproved of gay marriage and I think God would thank them for that because it's their Christian obligation to do so but to now try to force them to do what goes against their religious rights and beliefs through the same Supreme court that is meant to protect them is not really justified.

I'm not saying that gay people don't have a right to be gay but in a country that is called God's own country and built based on Christian principles, being gay isn't something the Supreme court should be exactly supporting since it goes against Christian principles and God's will.

The Christian God we know of doesn't approve of homosexuality or even gay marriage and for a government that has been voted in by Christians to be supporting gay marriage is to kill the Christian spirit the United States was built upon.

Is the USA still a Christian state? Has the moral fabric of America been torn apart? Are the no more Christians living in God's own country again? Why keep voting for a government that doesn't guarantee your religious liberty?

While the Supreme court ruling on gay marriage may have been a victory for gay activists in the United states, it may not bring long term peace to the nation that still has a lot of Christians who believe that it's wrong and should not be encouraged.

While I don't support the killing or elimination of gay Americans, I do support the idea that it's morally wrong and that they require some form of reform such as alcoholics and drug abuse victims do. We could create a health institution where they could go to for reform before being accepted back into the society. Another alternative may be to simply allow them live in a different region away from where straight people do so that both parties may not have to offend each other by their different lifestyles.

Prayer against guns and bullets

When this prayer is made in faith, it can protect the petitioner from the powers of guns and bullets using the supernatural power that comes from God.

"Almighty God, to whom all natural powers are subject to. We glorify you and acknowledge your ultimate power over all that you have created and all that man has made.

Man made guns using the limited knowledge that you have given him. These guns have the natural power to fire bullets and cause physical bodily harm.

However, we believe that your supernatural power overshadows the power of nature. Yes, your supernatural power is higher than nature and this was shown through your Son, Jesus Christ who was able to walk on water, defying gravity and mortality to also rise from the dead and ascend into heaven.

We pray that the power of guns, bullets and evil men may have no effect on our lives. We pray that anytime a gun or bullet is used to attack us, it would be powerless and harmless.

We pray that no weapons used against us shall be successful and that you fight against those who fight against us Oh Lord.

We ask this through Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in union with the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever, Amen".

How to be Holy through prayer

In all Christian generations, the Saints have always know that it is only through prayer that man can rise above sin and grow in Holiness and hence the saying, "A prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian."

What does it mean to be holy? What does holiness imply? I see it as a state of being filled with thoughts, words and deeds that are entirely focused on goodness or the will of God. Yes, it is a state of being without sin and being close to the almighty God in spirit.

Prayer is the key to a holy life and the reason why a lot of people are not Holy as they ought to be is simply because they don't pray as they ought to. Prayer is a spiritual activity connects man's spirit to God using words and thoughts.

Prayer is the only power man has to connect with God. It is through prayer that man can ask God first of all for forgiveness. Through prayer that man can ask for graces and through prayer that man can get eternal life. The Truth is that God can do everything but would not force himself on us. The only thing he has given us is the ability to pray and it is always within our power.

It is through prayer that we can beg God for his help and it is a gift which he has freely bestowed on us. Yes, prayer is a gift and he hears us when we call him in faith.
The more you pray, the more holy you will become and the less you pray, the less holy you'll become. The Son of God doesn't just ask us to be holy but he asks us to be holy, just as God is Holy.
If you ask me, that is a tall order - to be holy just as God is. It shows that we have a duty to aim not just to be holy but to be just as God is.

How does one achieve holiness through prayer?
It is quite simple. Just pray and pray and pray as if it's the only job you have on earth.
Some people pray only in the morning. Some pray only in the afternoon and some at night. However the Lord urges us to pray at all times and this means that prayer should be a primary activity you should so.

When you pray, ask God for forgiveness because he loves a humble person. Don't come to God as if you are alike when you are a sinner. God avoids being close to sinners except when they are humble. So one of the ways you can easily call God's attention is to recognize your faults and constantly ask for mercy.

If you've been spending 10 mins in prayer everyday, I bet it's time you start spending at least 1hr. 1 hr everyday in prayer would certainly make a difference in your life than if you have spent only 10 mins.

If you feel unsatisfied with your level of holiness, the only thing you need to do is spend more time in prayer. It may not be at a stretch, you can spend 15 mins every 1 hr or 5 mins every 30 mins. Some people even spend 6 hrs in prayer every day and that's why they are more holy.

Holiness is simply a function of prayer and the more time you spend in prayer, the more holy you will become. If you are still living in mortal sin on a daily or weekly basis, then you should increase the amount of time you spend in prayer. The more holy you become, the easier it will be for you to overcome sin. If only sinners would recognize that all they need is God's constant touch.

First analyze how much time you spend in prayer and increase the time spent. You will be surprised to see that you holiness would improve over a short period of time.

Disciplining the Flesh

Today is all Saints day and one of the issues I would want to write about is on how to discipline the flesh.

As a Christian, you should know that you have three principal enemies: The flesh, the world and evil spirits. If you fail to have control over your flesh, it would only end up controlling you, leading you to offend the Lord.

It is very impossible to go to heaven or survive the Christian battle if you cannot at least overcome the first principal enemy - The flesh.
The flesh is something closest to you. It's your self and if you cannot overcome and control yourself, it would only end up as a wild animal and then devour you.

The flesh is like an animal and needs to be trained in order to under control. It is like a little child that needs discipline or else he/she would turn up bad.

In this context, the flesh represents all vain things that pleases our physical body but does no good to our souls. Things like gluttony, adultery, fornication, masturbation, self love, abortion, laziness, prayerlessness and so on. The flesh is the weakened state of man as a result of the scars of original sin which we inherited from Adam. Since then, man's nature has become that of sin and it really needs grace in order to overcome it.

One of the ways by which the Saints disciplined their flesh was by fasting. This involved going without food for a time being in order to focus on the spirit. Look at it this way, someone who chooses not to eat is denying his flesh of something basic to his survival. He tells his flesh that it will get food when the master decides. Fasting helps keep you in control over your flesh as you don't give to it, everything it asks for.

One of the sins that offend God greatly are the sins of the flesh since it defiles God's very own temple which is our body. We were created for God and he would only get jealous if we fail to take control of our own body.

The Saints took control of their flesh
=====================================
When you read the history and life of popular saints in the church, you'd find that most of them were involved in some form of physical mortification such as working long hours, fasting, praying and abstinence. Those are the common ways of disciplining the flesh.

In our modern world, there seems to be a lot of things that make us weak to sin such as prayerlessness, love for money, too much tv, peer pressure, party lifestlye, fashion and so on. These things are the weapon which the devil is using to overcome us. If only we knew that, then we'd wake up and take control of the situation.

Jesus overcame the flesh
=========================
One of the first things Jesus did before beginning his ministry after John's baptism was to overcome his flesh and this he did by going into the desert. It was written that he fasted for 40 days and forty nights after being led by the Spirit. So, the spirit is willing to lead us, if only we are willing to follow. If the spirit leads you to fast, then you should fast.

Some Ways to discipline your flesh
===============================
- Eating and drinking with moderation. Better to avoid alcohol
- Fasting and abstinence
- Long hours in prayer
- Less tv time
- Doing good work
- Not Living in too much comfort. Sharing with the poor
- Avoiding the sin of lust. Control the heart and occasions of lust.
- More scriptural study
- Listening to Christian music.
I hope this helps.

Does going to church qualify as good work?

Some people say going to church does not guarantee salvation and some also may say it is not even necessary but are any of these opinions really true?

If you ask me, I would say that going to church does qualify as a good work as long as you do it with the right intention. You are on the right track of getting saved.
What does going to church involve or why do people go to church?

We need to first of all take a look at the passover feast which Jesus first had with his apostles and which the apostles had kept on repeating till our modern day - the breaking of bread. He instituted a new passover feast for his Christians and commanded them to always do it in memory of him.

Let's also go back to the acts of the apostles after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his commissioning to the disciples to love one another and to go into the world, preach the gospel and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

After Christ has resurrected and ascended into heaven, the disciples kept the tradition of constantly meeting together to share things in common and to the breaking of bread.
So Jesus has always wanted his church to meet constantly in order to eat together, pray and share things in common.

In the gospel he also gave a tip to his disciples on the importance of community prayer and how to make prayer really effective. He says, "Where 2 or 3 of you ask the father anything in my name, he will grant it". So God never refuses prayers of people who pray to him as a community although he may refuse the prayers of a single person. That is why in church, prayers reach their most powerful peak since they easily pierce into heaven and God hears it.

Sundays are the only day of the week which many societies in our modern world have chosen to dedicate as a work free day so that we who are human and being also a spiritual being would have time to worship God. Religion is a vital aspect of humanity and that's what makes us different from the animals.

Most animals tend to walk on their 4 feet and tend to look down because they are dust alone. Man is however different, we walk upright and tend to look upwards because we are not just dust alone - we are also spirit and believe in a spirit power. So man needs to worship God to feel complete.

So going to church does qualify as a good work and can merit us heaven if we do it right by worshipping God and enjoying his presence. In our busy world of today, there seems to be not much time for God despite the fact that we have built a lot of castles for him. We also need to visit him at Church heaven though he everywhere because church is the place that we have solely dedicated to the worship of God.

People don't ask you what you are doing at church because logically, anyone who goes to church is probably going to worship God and pay some form of respect. So going to church is a good thing and we need to do it with love for God and his people who we meet there.

Some benefits of going to Church on Sundays
- It draws down God's weekly blessing upon us
- We get spiritually re-invigorated
- Our faith is renewed
- Our sins are forgiven
- Our prayers become more effective as God answers
- We share out faith with fellow Christians
- We get more power to survive the week's battle
- Opportunity to worship God in spirit and truth
- We eat at the Lord's table

Nime Jesu: Before the cross

There is strength in meditating before the sacred crucifix and there's one at the tabernacle in my church.

The crucifix is s symbol of faith. It reminds us of the fact that Jesus died so that we might be free. He accepted death on the cross even though he didn't deserve it.

In our modern world, there are many things that could easily distract us from our eternal goal. Our aim is not for this world since all mankind is simply passing by. No one inherits this world since it would last for only a moment. The eternal place is where we should be focused on and conscious of.

So while certain things in this world like family, news, television, entertainment and money can distract us, sacred things like the crucifix can actually convert us to full attention.
There is a reason why we are here and mediating before the cross of Christ can help keep us focused - We are destined for heaven.

There is power in making the sign of the cross. There is power in meditating before the crucifix and I've felt this power many times over.
I recall a time when I was sitting close to the altar meditating before a huge crucifix hanging above the tabernacle. It was as if my eyes were opened and I the man on the cross came alive and started moving his lips. It was as if he was praying to God. I was a bit fascinated and a bit scared at what I saw happening. I guess Jesus allowed me to see that so that I may have more faith in his presence. It can be scary when God reveals certain things to us. After a while, the man became still again. The bottom line was that Jesus is truly present wherever his cross is venerated or meditated upon. It was a spiritual experience.

There is a lot we can gain from admiring God's presence and we can obtain true sorrow for our sin too if we meditate and worship deeply before the cross of Christ.

Before the cross:
- We can obtain perfect contrition for our sin
- We can meet with Jesus and talk with his as a friend
- We can truly touch heaven
- We can obtain sanctity for our souls
- Our prayers can become more effective
- We can grow in holiness
- We can grow stronger against sin
- Our meditation can become more powerful

A 100 years is a short time

You may live to be a 100 years and for many, it may seem like a long time. In reality, however, a 100 years is a really short time when you think back and see that there were men who lived to be over 500 years.

It seems the close the world gets to its end, the shorter human life span becomes. God placed a curse on man's life by shortening it and he still sends plaques to shorten man's earthly life and this is nothing but punishment for sin.

If you were blessed even to be a friend of God and live up to a 100 years, would that be enough for you do prove your worth? Would you bear good witness to God in this life which is but a route to our final destination?

A 100 years is a really short time and even many men nowadays don't live up to it as many have started dying from even 30 years. We don't know what the future holds for us in this world but we do know that armageddon is coming and the past will always be better than the present.

What really matters is not how long you live on earth but on how great a witness you've been to Jesus. Every true Christian comes to the light and makes his mark on the sands of time so that on resurrection day, even the world will bear witness that you belong to Christ.

There are a lot of people dying everyday and many are still being born. Of those who die, many of them will soon be forgotten but only very few will be remembered for the great works they did while on earth.

When ordinary men die, they are soon forgotten but when great men die, their names are written in history. Seek that greatness then in the kingdom of heaven. Make your mark known. Let the world bear witness even that you belong to the light.

Time is going and really waits for no one. Time is one thing we need ot use wisely when we have it for the dead have no time again.

Christian channels to watch on DSTV in Nigeria

With the growing rate at which people in Africa, Nigeria especially are switch to DSTV's cable tv service, it only makes sense for Christians to find time to grow their faith even when watching dstv.
We are told that in all things we do, we should learn to put God first. Same goes for DSTV addicts, it's time to nurture your faith by simply watching Christian TV rather than opening your time watching other channels like E! and Food channel.

There are a couple of Christian channels on DSTV and these includes the following:
- EWTN 348 - Catholic Channel
- Trinity 341
- Rhema 343
- Daystar 344
- OneG - 331

My favourite however is a Catholic channel called the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and it is an American television network meant for Catholics worldwide.

EWTN especially is normally available on DSTV Ku Africa option - I don't think it is available for DSTV KU Nigeria option so you may need to switch your DSTV remote button toTV  > DSTV Ku Africa in order to be able to see IT ON CHANNEL 348.

EWTN runs a lot of programs for 24 hrs from mass, rosary, talks, prayers and special updates.

Trusting in Divine Justice

Do you really trust in Divine Justice? Not many people trust in Divine Justice in the 21st century and this is probably why many people find it hard to forgive people who wrong them. Trusting in divine justice means that you have faith that God will justify all injustices against you.

What trusting in Diving Justice implies that for every one who steals from you, God will pay you back and take from that person. For every injustice that you receive, you will be justified. All these will only be as long as you don't take the laws into your own hands through vengeance.

To trust in Divine Justice means that you have faith in God and that you know him to be an active judge who will pay you back with interest for every debt owed to you. It really means that you have faith in the almighty God who knows all things and is righteous in judgement.

He who trusts in God's justice is a patient man who will reap good rewards in their due time. He is slow to revenge and in fact he doesn't, because he trusts in the Lord of vengeance.

What do you do when a thief robs you of your mobile phone or money? Do you curse them or wish them evil when they leave? Do you pray for their repentance? Doing the former simply implies that you have no faith in God but doing the latter means that you love them and trust that God will reward you for forgiving.

When it comes to things like money, many people tend to forget divine justice and just want to cheat, steal and destroy anyone that gets in their way. In your career, do you cheat to get your way? Do you take the easy path for promotion rather than getting it by merit? If you are unjust, then you can change your ways by trusting in Divine justice because he is surely coming.

The Truth is that we have a perfect Judge who is unrivaled and the best way to live in this world is to trust that he sees everything and will reward everyone according to their works.

Who is truly the richest man on earth?

The world has its own way of judging riches and they tend to accord as rich those who have a lot of material wealth.
In reality, in the eyes of God, true riches is not judged as such. In fact no one is rich except he is rich in God.

The richest man on earth is the man who has the most of God. So, the more of God that a person possesses, the more rich he truly is.
The amount of income a person has is not true riches as these things are temporal and do not guarantee life. It is only when a person has God, dwelling in him, can he be truly rich. You can't say that you are safe and secure when your wealth cannot guarantee a lasting future.

There are stories of people who make millions of dollars yearly and have hundreds of billion dollar assets but those are not true riches since they have a short time frame. Why not invest in riches that have an eternal lifespan ? - Riches that never end.

If you are rich materially, don't consider those as true wealth because there is something greater than that. You can do better if you invest in the riches that come from the kingdom of heaven.

Nime Jesu - Holy Communion

Jesus said, he who eats my flesh will live forever. This is a hard thing to hear or do but Christians do believe in Christ and they do it. That is what really happens at every Eucharistic feast- we eat the flesh of Jesus.

Are we cannibals then? Why should we not shiver at eating the body of a man? Well this act of eating the body of Jesus is not really in a bloody manner and it is not just the body of man but the body of God which has been converted to a sacrament such that when we eat him, our souls come alive.

What does Holy communion do for us? Of all sacraments or, nothing unites us to God so much like the Holy Eucharist. It is in Holy communion that we share the Eucharist. It is in this Communion that our weaknesses are driven away. In this communion, Christ takes control of our body and live in us.
Holy communion is the act of receiving the body of Jesus Christ under the appearance of bread and wine. It is the receiving of the Holy Eucharist just as Christ commanded at the last supper - Do this in memory of me.

The Holy communion, mostly signified by the sharing of bread an wine that is truly the Lord's flesh and blood, is where we give ourselves to Jesus and eat him as our divine food. The body needs food to survive and so does the soul. It is in Holy communion that God feeds his people and if you are not fed by God, you may suffer eternal hunger.

It is one of the oldest traditions of the church and it is impossible to see a True Church without witnessing the eating of the body of Jesus under the appearance of bread and wine.

In Holy communion, we are embedded in Jesus and he moves us. Every Christian who receives holy communion worthily immediately feels something significant after that reception. He would know that the Lord has come in his fullness.

Nime Jesu - Inside Christ

Living in Christ is a beautiful thing. In him, we find something which the world cannot offer - Perfect peace.

Soso nime Jesus kanyi nwere ike inwe udo. Only in Christ can a soul find rest, only in him can we find life, yes, the true meaning of life. When he says, "I am the Life", he really meant it.

We are in a world influenced by a lot of evil and ordinarily man cannot overcome such evil without grace from God. Now God provides us that grace that can save us from the world's evil, when we live in Christ.

Abide in me and I in you so that you may bear fruit. Those were the words of Jesus in the gospel according to John. It is when we live in him, by abiding in his words that we can really have true life. It is in Christ that we can have live forever. In him can we obtain a taste of everlasting joy.

How does one live in Christ? Kedu etu anyi ya esi biri nime Jesu? It's simple - Obeying his word. When we believe and act according to his word, then we are living in him.

When you are in Christ, you have overcome sin and even when you sin, he urges us to still believe in forgiveness, the constant forgiveness of God. Some Christians have started doubting the mercy of God and when you start doing so, you are going away from the way.
God is so rich that he can keep on forgiving us even till the end of the world so never doubt God's mercy. God wants us to be saved by all means even if we have to be dragged by grace to heaven.

There is no really no reason why anyone should be lost unless that person has simply rejected God's mercy and grace.
St Paul reminds us, his grace is sufficient for us. This is because he who has power to forgive us our sin also has power to preserve us from sin. We should grow from just asking God for mercy after we sin and start asking God for grace so that we may not sin. Many people try to enter heaven only by their physical effort without looking unto the real Effort. God is that effort and when we accept that Truth, then Christ lives in us and we are already saved.

Onye biri nime Jesu, oga enwe ndu ebighi ebi. He who lives in Christ will live forever because of Grace. God is too riche for us to remain poor so it's best to start asking for spiritual gifts more often than we ever have.

How to vote for Jesus

If you are a Christian, then you must know Jesus and really accept him as King of the universe. Jesus, truly is the universal King. He is one whose kingdom will never have an end and his reign is already begun. It is only a matter of time for us to see his glory in fullness. Christ's kingdom is already existing in a place where time cannot comprehend and yes, the power of Christ's kingship still rocks this work.

As a Christian, who should you vote for when it comes to election time? Who you vote for really matters a lot. It would be evil and against your faith if you vote for someone who opposes your Christian way of life. Voting for Jesus means voting for truth, justice and righteousness. It means not voting for someone just because you collected some money. In fact, it really means rejecting money if voting for that person is the only condition for collecting that money.

In the 21st century, it seems our world is going more democratic as world powers emerged based on powers given to them by their people That's what the world government is turning to. This means that your vote does have power and who Christians vote for really matters to the future of their religion.

Adopting the Christian principle in our society and govt is what Christians should vote for. Christians should not vote for people who crucify Jesus again by allowing to get into office, those who support abortion, gay marriage and supporting laws that oppose the way of Christ. Christians should learn to vote for people who don't persecute the Christian religion.

Voting for a fellow Christian is another way to vote for Jesus in our current world. A christian should vote for someone that shares the same belief as he does and practices it too. It would't be ideal if a Christian votes to put his enemy into power because he will only end up to fight against your faith when he gets into power.

Jesus' kingship is taking over our world whether anyone likes it or not and now is the time to show which side you belong to. When next you vote, will you choose Jesus or not?
Vote for Jesus. Vote for the Christ! Vote for the truth! Don't vote for money.

How to go to Confession

Confession in catholic faith is that act of telling your sins to a Catholic priest out of sorrow in order to get forgiveness from God.

Confession is an act of faith in the Church's sacraments since we believe that God will forgive us our sins, if we are repentant and ask for forgiveness.

In Nigeria, here is the way by which Christians go to confess their sins in church:
The penitent approaches the confessional and says to the priest,
"Bless me father, for I have sinned
Tell the priest your sins out of sorrow

Forgive me father for I have finished, for this and all the sins of my past of life which I cannot now remember, I am sorry for them"

He listens to the priest's advice and the penance he gives as a form of amendment for your sins
The person says an act of contrition, "O my God, because you are so Good, I am very sorry that I have sinned against you and by the help of your grace, I will not sin again"

He receive the priest's absolution/forgiveness prayer by making a sign of the cross and saying Amen.

The priest says, "Go in peace".

The the person goes in peace and does his penance".

Three things necessary for a good confession
====================================
- Contrition: Feeling sorry for your sins
- Confession: Confess all your mortal sins and venial sins that you remember
- Satisfaction: Doing the penance issued to your by the priest

Open Soul

There is a likeness which our souls take from the creator - the fact that they like him, are immortal. The only thing that can probably kill an immortal is an immortal death. On earth, our souls have grace and we are still in a period of transformation and we are still taking shape. We already know what we are but what we shall be is yet to come and when it does come, we shall be truly revealed. Our souls need to be opened to God because we were made for him and only him can fill us.

Our souls are immortal - they can never die! That may be scary but also true. True change for us can
only happen in the present but when the future is revealed, change must have been already completed. We are still growing and our beings are still in a temporal shape but when permanence takes over, change becomes the past.

Open your mind and understand why you are here. It is for a purpose and not really about making money or getting married but there is a higher purpose. The stock markets, bond trading, real estate and your career is not really the real deal, the real deal if Life and Life does not end.

Does Prayer give long life?

I believe it does since each time we do it, we get hooked up to big G who is life himself. Everything that exists, everything that is, draws life from God and it would be impossible to have life if God doesn't give it.

What is prayer and how does it give more life to people?
Prayer is simply communicating with God. Talking with God. The only way we can talk with God who is a spirit is by going to him in spirit and that is what we do in Prayer - Our hearts and mind sync up to his.

Each time we pray, we get formally hooked up to the source of life and our life only increases the more we are connected to him. We were never really meant to be disconnected from God that is why Jesus urges us to pray always.

Nowadays people don't live so long.
Have you wondered why people hardly live long nowadays? You even see young people dying of heart attack in their 30s and you wonder, how come other people in the past lived up to 800 years? It's simple, humanity is getting more and more disconnected from God. If you really want longevity, it only has one source and that is God and the more you are with him, time would be of almost little consequence. The rate and age at which men die daily is disturbing and although this life was not really meant to be permanent, it could have been much longer than the length we currently have.

People refer to the Bible on how God limited man's life to nothing more than a hundred and 20 years. In reality, God never planned for man to live for such a short term but it came later as a curse because of our increasing sinfulness which only comes as a result of prayerlessness.

People of old did more meditation and prayer than we do in our current world. Nowadays, we surround ourselves with a lot of artificial and materialistc thins which take us further away from prayer while in the days of old, people could easily connect with God just by admiring the natural things he created.

Nature has a way of making one live longer
Even our scientists bear witness that natural things give us a much healthier and longer life than processed or man-made things. We seem to want to tamper with everything that God has made in order to make it perfect in our eyes but in reality it becomes corrupted by human nature and takes more life out of our world. Everything that God created in it's natural state has a way of giving life to man such as the plants, animals, clouds and so on but we seem to have replaced these things which magnificient buildings, cars and television all of which add more pollution to our world. Our scientists agree that our world needs to be more green if we are to escape armageddon which is likely to come as a result of increasing global warming. Who knows, when that day comes, maybe people would only get to live for maybe 1 year or so. In the past, humans were much bigger and lived longer and tampered less with the natural world but in our days, we are smaller beings who feel we have no need of God but we take life out of our environment by the things we do.

The truth is that in order to live longer, we need to go back to God.

Prayer cures a lot of ills
When we pray, we get connected to God who heals us from all our physical and spiritual illnesses. It depends on your level of spirituality but there is a level of prayer that you would reach such that even if you had malaria, it would be cured just because you were praying. Different people pray differently as some do it much better than others. Prayers made in faith does a lot of good to our bodies and souls. The more we pray, the more our faith grows, the less we pray, the less it grows. If you are a prayerful person, your presence would do a lot of healing to people in your environment since you will become a vessel to God. A prayerful person in this manner helps to increase the average life span of people he lives with. If you live around people who hardly pray, chances are that they may also be reducing your life span.

Prayer does give long life.
If you were asked how old God is, what would you say? You simply don't know. One would not be wrong in saying that God is older than the earth, moon and universe combined and if scientists have even tried to put an age on the earth to be over 4 billions years, then who knows hold old God would be - That would be scary!
If you pray often, it is only normal that God's longevity would have an impact on your mortal bodies and give you a much healthier and longer life. God has the capacity to ensure that you live a fulfilled life on this earth and still be able to live forever as he does. If God wills, he could even make you avoid death since he has conquered it. God can transform your physical temporary life into an everlasting one because he is everlasting.
It is simple, the more you pray, the more you get life from God and the more likely that your life span would be altered to your own good.

How to work a miracle - II

If you have faith, you could say to this mountains be uprooted here and cast into the sea and it will obey you - Jesus said.
To be able to work miracles in the 21st century, a time when there is a lot of distractions and negative energy, you need to think outside the box, you need to believe that the supernatural can still happen.
"What is the supernatural?" you may ask. It is the power that is higher than nature. It has the ability to alter nature or break some of nature's law. It is something out of the ordinary.

When you see a man rising from the dead, the sun dancing and emitting colours, a man flying without wings, trees bowing down, water turning to dust and strange things like that, you know that it is not natural. The supernatural is at work.

In order to be able to work a miracle, you need to have that mindset, you need to make room for it to happen, you need to open your mind.
Man once had that ability in fullness but as he spent more of his time in a corrupt and degraded nature, he tended to lose most of this powers. Jesus came to restore this power but there are still just a few people who have that ability to bring the supernatural to work.

Once you believe that something can happen, no matter how small your belief is, that things begins to happen already and it is only a matter of time, depending on your optimism, that it starts happening in this physical world. For some people, their miracles could take years and decades to happen, but for those who have nourished their beings with the supernatural, it only takes seconds. You need to be elevated to a level that allows you to act as the god you were created to be, because really, you share a part of the Supreme being.

Instant miracles happen when faith is abundant, but little optimism can delay or deny it. You need to have unflinching optimism in order to work wonders and bring men to the way.

Boko Haram and the Christian martyrs

Would Nigerian Christians lose or deny their faith just because there is a growing number of persecution against them by people who hide under the cover of Islam? They come with the name Boko Haram - a name which book is bad and they claim to be Muslims but numerous Muslim groups in Nigeria have denounced their actions.

On the 25th of December 2011 - Christmas day which is the day Christians worldwide normally mark the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It was on this holy day and at the Holy parish of St Theresa's Niger state that evil men decide to cause havoc, commit sacrilege and kill innocent people who have gone to worship the Almighty God.

I guess on this day and after it happened, many people may be asking, "Where is God? Why did he allow this to happen?". I guess God must have foreseen that this would happen, he probably permitted it to happen but he would also have wanted to perpetrators to have a change of heart using their freewill. Instead they did not, they raised their hands against God and his Kingdom and slay the people who worship his Son. Would Christ answer back with instant Judgement being the King of Kings? Maybe not yet or maybe soon.

What consolation could we gain from the fact that this people were killed in the house of their father? But looking at it in another light - What better place to die than at church? If you were asked where you would want to die, where would that be? Wouldn't you prefer dying while worshiping God rather than when sleeping?

For the Boko Haramites and their supporters, they have succeeded in inciting fear but I doubt if they have broken the faith of people who believe in Christ for such Christians would recall what the Lord said in the 8th beatitude - "Blessed are you when men persecute you because of the kingdom and my name, rejoice, for great is your reward in heaven" and again "if they persecuted me, they will persecute you". I think, for those who died because they went to identify with Jesus Christ at St Theresa's, they are martyrs for Christ and would probably be having some of the joys of heaven already because the angel also says "Blessed are those who now die in the Lord" (Revelation 14:13) and St Peter even remarked that "It is better to suffer for doing what is right than for doing what is wrong" (1 Peter 3:17).

So although what the Boko Haramites did by bombing the holy Church of St Theresa's was condemned by God and would have it's judgement in due time, those who died because they went to Church on Christmas day are really martyrs for Christ for where he is, they will also be and "And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes". Their sins which are many will be forgiven them because they offered the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.

The 1 hr prayer

If you could pray for 1 hr everyday for 7 days, your life could be really different.
Prayer is the key to Christian power. Without prayer, a Christian is really powerless. Without prayer, man is infact disconnected from God. True prayer is made possible when the Holy Spirit resides in us. When we pray with him, our souls become alive.

It is impossible to do a great work for God without prayer. A good example is Jesus Christ who before the beginning of his ministry, after baptism, went into the desert in other to be fortified with prayer. The task before his was huge, it was a fight to save mankind- all the sons of Adam, and he couldn't do this without connecting heaven and earth and this he did by prayer.

At times prayer can be hard, at times it requires mortification. In fact the more someone spends in prayer the more mortified the body becomes because prayer even makes you forget you have need of material things like food. Prayer fills you with heavenly food that seems to make your earthly food almost non-important. So Jesus was in the desert with unclean animals but it was a quiet place, a place where prayer has little distractions.

When we want to have an effective prayer, we need to cut off all distractions. If we find it almost impossible to pray because of the people we live with, then one good way of avoiding distractions from people is by telling them you want to pray or by taking a physical form of prayer like kneeling down and closing our eyes while we pray to God, even in silence. Your neighbours will understand that you are praying and will not disturb you.

Modern day Christians seem to have been withered down when it comes to prayer and that's why we are not as active Christians as our fathers were. Nowadays, the average Christian only spend about 15 mins a day while some never pray except at church.

Does it really matter how much time one spends with God in prayer? Well yes it does because the more time you spend in prayer, the more great things God will do through you.

Try and take the experiment to spend at least 1 hr a day in prayer. You'd be surprised when you realize that you even want to spend more time than that.

One tip for praying long prayers is by not exerting too much physical strain on your body. You can pray silently rather than loudly. You can pray sitting rather than kneeling. You can even stand if you like. You can also pray lying down.

Try to talk to God and don't rush it. Say what you mean, mean what you say and even listening to God is prayer.

10 Things you won't find in heaven

Heaven is a place of eternal rest where most religious people in our world today seek to go after they die or finish their earthly mission. To Christians, heaven is where we believe we shall go to if we die in the Lord. In heaven there will be eternal joy and death will no longer exist. Heaven is what Christ has promised to those who believe in him. It is the place or state of existence we will be in if we merit eternal life. It is somewhere much higher that this earth and where will be the place for souls that .

However, going to heaven is not easy as many may have to pass through fire in order to reach there. It is only in heaven we shall see and feel God for who he really is. One earth, we may get a little taste of heaven but there, we shall have it in fullness.

The scripture says that "What no eye has seen or ear has heard, is what God has prepared for those who love him".
What will heaven really be like? What would we find in heaven? What are the things we won't find there?

Well, here are 10 things I believe we won't find in heaven:

1. Bills
2. Coca Cola
3. Cars
4. Death
5. Marriage
6. Sex
7. Sickness
8. Sleep
9. Computers
10. Money

So I guess if we don't get to meet those things in heaven, life would really be much beautiful or what do you think?

After Holy Communion

Have you ever felt unusually weak to commit sin? Have you ever felt a sort of inner happiness and joy which did not come from any material or physical possession? Have you felt a little more confident of life and your future unlike the days when you would be feeling a little distressed or worried?

Probably, those are some of the after effects of a Holy Communion with the Lord.
Holy Communion in catechism is referred to as the receiving of the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, together with his soul and divinity, under the appearance of bread and wine.

Holy communion actually has to do more with having the spirit of Christ in you and experiencing the peace and joy which he usually brings.

So how do you feel after having a holy communion? How do you act towards your neighbours? Do you do better or worse? You are most likely going to feel better after having a holy communion with the Lord - Your life can never be the same!

How you live after holy communion matters a lot and goes a lot to tell how much witness you bear of Christ. Do you still go back to the old things you do or do you get better? Life after holy communion is mostly fruitful and better and you will begin to see more of God's love in everything.

How to live forever young

Being young forever is what a lot of people would want and even the rich don't mind spending all their money just to do so. People spend a lot of money and time on beauty tips, creams, technologies, surgeries just to enjoy this life to the fullest and never grow old but in the end, nature always takes its toll and I don't want to start calling names here.

I was listening to a remix song titled Forever Young by JayZ and I thought about it - How can one live Forever young? Is it really possible? Well it is!
The truth is that Man can live forever and still look young without having to grow old, get sick or die, but how? The answer is not in what human scientists have tried to get over the years. Although scientific inventions may point to it just like the star pointed to the manger in Bethlehem. The star was not the real answer but it offered a tip to the answer.

Now when it comes to living forever young according to scientists, it involves doing certain things which involves your effort, scientists agree that it is within man's power to do so, they also agree that you look younger if you don't get sick but what really is the answer?

Well the answer has to do with God. No one can live forever without knowing a God that has always been and will always be. God is the secret to youth. God is young forever! Isn't that awesome? For someone to be so old and yet so young?

Now God was not created rather he creates and of all creatures that he has made, the virgin Mary is a good example of eternal youth. Mary being mother of Christ is also our Christian mother. Her youthfulness is not in the world, but in God, for she now lives as He lives and in Him. People who live in God and in heaven are the ones who will truly be Forever young but as for this world, man in incapable of being so yet, until its end since all flesh is passing away.

If we really want to live forever young, it is only in God that you can do so and it can begin now if you are willing.

Thank God I'm a Christian

There was a time when there as nothing called Christianity. Since the Christ had not come, how could there be Christians. Christianity means to follow Christ. It means to be true disciples or t enter into a covenant with God through Christ. As you might well know, Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

This means that of all religions that claim to have knowledge about God, being a Christian is the highest and closest. He is the Way meaning that there is no higher path than him. He is our primary connection to God. Being a Christian should make us proud, not of ourselves of our works but of God's grace. Christianity cometh by faith but faith comes through grace and for everyone who has faith in Christ, he ought to be thankful for it.

I thank God that I'm a Christian because there is no higher duty than this in our world. Being a Christian makes you brother and sisters of the Son of God and hence a child of God and you are free to call him father. No other religion holds claim to this no other religion believes that one could become a child of God but thanks to him, our Christian faith supports this and we are indeed children of the Father who created everything.

The best time for someone to receive the Christian faith is at childhood, when still an infant and this will help the child break free from the sin of Adam which holds us bondage to evil in this world.

Unbaptized children can easily be cursed, possessed or condemned as kids but baptism break away all these and makes the child to grow up in the grace of God and power of the Spirit.

A little bit of heaven - Part III

We could walk through doors without opening them
We could walk through walls without breaking them
We could float like birds without having wings
No one could fall sick
No one could die
It was a place of constant peace and timeless
It was joy and smiles all through
There was nothing to be sad about
No growing old and no getting tired
We didn't eat because we were never hungry
We have arrived at a place we shall be forever

A little bit of heaven is what I call it and you could experience it too, if you come with open hands and a believing heart.

Ekene dili Chukwu - Thanks be to God

Ekene dili Chukwu is the name of a luxury transport service in Nigeria that normally takes travellers between South Eastern and South Western Nigeria. It was problably chosen by the late owner as a result of his faith in God and his believe that God should be thanked in all things. Ekene dili Chukwu is an Igbo phrase which means "Thanks be to God" and it ia actually a good thing that people never exclude God even in their businesses.

Ndigbo are a deeply religious people and it is probably because of their closeness to God that makes them to be successful in all their endeavour as they control a major part of Nigeria's economy and are the driving force behind small scale industries, banking, real estate and transportation industries.

When God touches people, he makes them successful and opens doors for them and this is also probably why they have a more stable family system that makes them one of the three major tribes in Nigeria.

For what reason should you say Ekene dili Chukwu? Well, you could start thanking him for your life and later on thank him for your parents and brothers and sisters, friends and relations. You should thank God for revealing himself to you, thank him for being a Christian, for his miracles, for the body and blood, for salvation and eternal life you are destined to inherit. Thank God for time, thank him for education, thank him for the prayers he has answered.
God is sad that we don't thank him always so make it a duty to say Ekene dili Chukwu more often.

If there is anything you are lacking that you need, thank God for it for he has already sent it, only for you to believe and receive it and you should remember that Jesus said,"Your heavenly Father knows that you need these things". Just thank him first

A little bit of heaven - Part II

What is heaven if not a place of ever lasting happiness? To what shall we equate the happiness in this place? There is no happiness on earth that can be compared to the happiness you will have in heaven. It is our place, yes, it is our home. We are destined for heaven if we hear this words and believe in it. Yes, heaven comes by believing and believing transforms you.

There is a God, one God who is Father, Son and Spirit. Those who deny this truth are not from God and to those who accept, doors have been opened and yes, not just one door because in my Father's house, you know the rest.
Ife anya afubehu, ife nti anubehu, bu i he Chi dobere ndi kwere na ya.

What is it that makes you happy in this world? Even the world bears witness that material things don't give true joy. No matter how much food you eat, wine you drink, places you go, people you meet, you can never be truly happy unless you do a good thing and nothing is really good except it is from the Spirit.
People engage in charitable work such as helping people in Africa dying of Aids of famine just because they know that they feel much happier when they do some good by helping a fellow in need. You may be the richest man in the world or in Silicon Valley but even the rich agree that money doesn't really give true happiness until they start sharing it with others. Why people naturally feel happier when they do some good may be a mystery to some but the thing is that God gives a little bit of heavenly happiness to people on earth. It is like when you play a game, you win some points or credit, likewise we are like in a game in this world, time is not yet over, but for the little good we do, He gives us a little bit of heaven.

So, to start enjoying a little bit of heaven, while on earth, start doing some good.
Here are little things you could do that can help make you happier:

- Meet people
- Feed the poor
- Forgive your offenders
- Obey good civil laws
- Stop Abortion
- Go to Church
- Help people in need
- Pray more often

Overcoming the Devil

In the scriptures, we read of how our Lord overcome the devil after he was taken to a high mountain and tempted. He was just too powerful for the devil to overcome him.

The Devil is not God's negative
Some people make the erroneous mistake of quantifying the devil as having a near equal magnitude of power to God but in an evil way. It is nothing but a pure lie. The devil is not the direct opposite of God nor is he infinite. The truth is that his powers are limited and so are his temptations.

The Devil is not responsible for all our sins
Some people also make the erroneous mistake of blaming the devil for every sin they commit. This is also a lie, some of the sins we commit, we do on our own and not all of them are temptations by the devil but we are all given equal freedom to choose to do good or evil.

Baptism and faith as our victory
The truth is that you have already overcome the devil when you believe that he is limited. Don't exaggerate his power. He is infact more jealous of you, not just because you are a child of the woman, but also because you are a soldier of Jesus Christmas. At Baptism, your first defeat has already began but you need to still keep on fighting.
Evil and devils are not as powerful as you think and choosing the dark side will only make you a miserable enemy of God because winners are always on his side.

Use the Cross
There is a lot of hidden mysteries behind the cross and there are various ways I could explain it. Nature even bears witness of the cross when you see birds in the air flying in cross-form with their wings flapped out. You find out that even no machine built by man can fly like birds without taking the form of a cross. It is seen in the relationship between the Father, His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit - Three in One. You also see it as the completion of our salvation when Christ died for us, who even foresaw that his death would take the form of a cross. In all these, the Holy Spirit is saying something and revealing secrets to us. We need to use the cross to overcome the world and bring God's Kingdom to reign here.

So as a Christian, there are several other ways to overcome the devil and this includes making the sign of the cross. The devil does not like the cross of Christ and always seeks to persecute it or say something evil about it, spit around it and look with disgust. It makes him weak and powerless, but take away the cross and he fights gallantly. So if you ever find yourself in a very troubling situation that could lead to evil, just make the sign of the cross saying "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Hold Spirit" and you would see the glory of God. Using the cross to fight the devil can also be done by seeing the cross as a form of self denial such that we would have more self control over what out body wants as Christ warned, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" so you can overcome evil by dominating your body and one way to do this is by fasting and praying.

Faith is also an essential part of your fight against the devil for with faith, doors open and your pierce your enemies. Even a little faith can do wonders as long as you hold onto it steadily after all, you have nothing to lose if you have faith. But for someone who doesn't have faith, he has everything to loose so never let the devil find you without faith

Iwuchukwu - God's will

When God wills, no man can unwill. Despite the difficulties, challenges or obstacles that may be slowing down your destiny, no man can stop what God has willed for you - Iwuchukwu. It is only for you to accept it.

Chukwu kpohere gi uzo, onweghi onye ya kpochili ya. Onweghi onye kariri Iwu Chukwu.

A time comes in Man's life when God's glory begins to manifest in it's fullest. The person will seem to be breaking out of his current circumstance. It could create enemies but will also bring in reliable friends, because it is God's will. All through Christ's life as a kid, it was almost hidden but when he began his ministry at 33 years, his life became open and people started knowing him for who he really is - God's Son.

In the same way, a time comes in your life, if you have given it to God, for people to start seeing His light in you. Your life would no longer remain hidden but will light up their lives.

The best way to live in this world is to live according to God's will because run where you may, His will continues to pressure you and until you accept, you may not have peace.
Iwu Chukwu bu ife na nye anyi udo na anuli. Ikwesiri ina bata ya.

A little bit of heaven

I said "a little bit of heaven" because it is quite possible to have it, yeah, just a little bit of it, while on earth.

What is this about? Well, it is about the joys, the glories, the life that one will continually experience while in heaven.

In heaven, there is eternal joy. What we will experience in heaven is referred to in the biblical phrase "what no eye has seen, ear heard or mind conceived is what the Lord God has kept for those who love him".

In Igbo, we may translate that phrase to "ihe anya afu behe, ihe nti anu behe, ihe uche eche behe, bu ihe Chukwu do bere ndi furu e na anya"

Levitation - Supernatural suspension

Have you ever prayed or did something spiritual and experienced a strange physical change? Well some saints in the Church have experienced what we call Levitation.

I happened to stumble upon it on Google yesterday and Levitation has to do with when a body gets suspended in the air without any contact with the ground or physical force suspending it. Although some scientists have been able to remake Levitation by the use of magnets and force fields but I am talking about supernatural Levitation in the sense that this people while praying or in spiritual ecstasy tend to get suspended in the air and at times fly while it at it.

St Teresa of Avila was one saint who experiences it at times when she was kneeling down to pray and her countenance and face was said to have changed as people saw her being lifted more than one or two feet above the ground. There is also the story of St Joseph of Cupertino (1603-63) who was known to Levitate for longer hours and even flew at times. He even found himself in the air after shaking the Poe one certain time until his Superior ordered him to come down. Things such as those were actually by the power of God and no trick and did follow those who led a holy and prayerful life. In our current day, it appears that we are lacking in signs and miracles and perhaps holiness has been on the decline. It seems like the great things that happened in the church does not belong to the 21st century. I believe we need to rediscover that spirituality and way of life the Holy Saints once lived while on earth if we need to see signs such as these again.

Glories of Mary

There is a book called Glories of Mary written by Alphonsus Ligouri but I just want to share in general terms. The Truth is that God had always desired to save the world and because of this sent his messengers before hand to prepare the way.
In spite of all God did, some people still did not want to acknowledge him and so he predestined a body through which he would enter the world. He predestined a human body even before it was born.

After the fall of Adam, all men were born into sin and so he predestined a human body which was supernaturally conceived without sin - Immaculate conception. God chose the Virgin Mary, even before she was born to be her mother and to be the portal through which he would enter the world
God had the power to do this, it was fitting that he should do this, therefore he did it.
It was fitting that the body which would bear the Lord be free from the guilt of eve and of pure blood like at creation. The only time God created a second eve was in Mary signifying that he was about to take flesh.

God chose Mary and chose to come to the world through Mary so that through Mary, the world will return to God.
Does Mary have the power to save? Yes and she has urged us to use her tools such as the Rosary and the scapular. Being the mother of God, she is also Co-Redeemer and indeed the Mediatrix of all graces. The Angel Gabriel acknowledged the Glory found in Mary, even though she was human, by calling her full of God.

In August, the church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin who after the completion of her earthly life was taken up, body and soul. Mary's tomb is said to have been filled with flowers but her body was not there and did not see corruption.

The Church talks about the Assumption of our Lady in the following way:

"By the Authority of our Lord Jesus Christ
Of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul
And by Our own authority
We Solemnly declare and define it to be
A heavenly revealed dogma
That the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin
After the completion of her earthly life
Was taken up into heaven
Body and Soul".

The Catholic Church and Homosexuality

It is alarming the way some parts of the world treat homosexuality as if it were an acceptable thing. In countries like Nigeria, everybody knows that it is a great evil in the eyes of God and goes against the moral fabric of the society. To even go to the extent of legalizing things like homosexuality and abortion like some western countries do is to simply call down fires from heaven from a Nigerian Christian's point of view. Things like that are not likely in Nigeria but with the way western media seems to encourage or influence it under the guise of equal human rights amounts more to encouraging global moral decadence.

Homosexuality is a great evil and an inordinate and behaviour. It is not a new sin. It has been there since the early human life and God never encouraged it. It was for this reason that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the same sin spoken of in the letter of St. Paul to the Romans 1.18, 27 "God's anger is revealed against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known ..Men do shameful things with each other and as a result, they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for wrongdoing."

The truth is that no true Christian would encourage homosexuals but would see it as an offence against God and try to overcome it. It is like an addiction and like Jesus says, everyone who commits sin becomes a slave to sin same thing with this kind of sin. People who indulge in it become slaves and can only be redeemed by a spiritual force. They really need prayers but for some people to be encouraging it as normal and acceptable is even a greater evil.

The Church has constantly spoken against this not necessarily to condemn the victims but to encourage them to repent and overcome their bad habits. It is one thing to do something and another thing to know that what you did is bad but to even be blinded by a false teaching that homosexuality if normal is the worst kind of state to be in.

Ekenem Maria - Hail Mary in Igbo

This is how we say the Hail Mary in Igbo Language:

Ekenem Maria
juputara na gracia,
Oseburu uwa nonyere gi,
idi ngozi na etiti ukporo nine,
odiazi ngozi nwafo gi bu Jesu,

Maria di aso,
nne nke Chukwu,
yobara anyi bu ndi njo ayiyo,
kita, na amani onwu anyi.

Amen.

Why does God not answer prayers?

This is a question a lot of people who have been asking for something in particular from God would want answered.

If it were possible, they would want someone from heaven or a sign to reveal to them why God does not answer their prayers. "I kwesiri inwe okwukwe".

The truth is that God answers all prayers and he may respond to you in the following way:

Yes: Meaning that, your gifts are on the way.
No: Meaning that, it is against his will
Not Yet: Meaning that, the time is not right yet so you wait.

If you feel that your prayers have not been answered for a long time, then here is what I suggest that you do:
1. Go to confession and be right with God
2. Try to see if what you are asking for is not against the Ten commandments.
3. How would that thing glorify God if he granted it.
4. If it is not against God's will, then keep asking and keep believing and look for signs that God will send you. These signs would come more than once

In Thanksgiving and Love by Jude Nnam

Oh Yes in the presence of the Lord
I will bring my gifts with thanksgiving and Love

I really love this Catholic hymn when I go to Sunday mass. I didn't know it was already on YouTube. It was composed by a brother called Jude Nnam and He visited us once in Lagos in the second quarter of 2010

It is a thanksgiving song during the offertory. There are a whole lot of other Igbo songs and Catholic hymns he has been know to compose

How to pray - Etu esi ekpe Ekpere

In Igbo we translate How to pray to Etu esi ekpe ekpere. I would have preferred to write at times in Igbo entirely but maybe I'm going to do a mix.

How do you pray in a developing world as ours? How do you pray in a time when they seems to be no time. Even the world bears witness that time is short as everything we do in our world today seems to be in a hurry thanks to growing knowledge in science and technology.

As a Christian, you may agree that you've prayed on several occasions and that on the average you at least know how to pray, even if it is just the Our father(Nna anyi no n'eligwe) that Jesus taught.

One question I would like to ask you then is how many times have you in such prayers ever felt an out of body experience. How many of such times have you felt strongly the presence of another being. Have you felt happier or sadder after performing an activity you would consider to be a Prayer(Ekpere)?

Oburu na ikpere ekpere, mmuo gi ya metu eligwe - If you prayed, your spirit would reach heaven. If you have really prayed, your being would feel an after effect after such a session.

Prayer transforms us and remoulds us but the problem is that most times, we do not really pray, we do not really connect to God. We do not exactly raise up our minds and hear to God rather we just mutter words that carry no power or heart.

When you want to pray, here is what I suggest that you do:
1. Recognize the presence of God with faith
2. Concentrate and forget your immediate physical environment - Your spirit is about to travel.
3. Say what you mean and mean what you say
4. Try to comprehend what you say and don't rush it
5. Slow down your prayer in order to connect with the words that you are saying
6. Keep silent and listen to God's response
7. Pray respectfully - I mean, you are talking to the most important person in existence!
8. Pray with true love and ask for mostly spiritual gifts
Chi anyi na aza ekpere n'oburu n'aikpere ya ofuma.

The truth is that the more you pray, the more you would want to pray. You need to learn how to set out time for a quiet personal prayer and it could be 1 hour per session once or twice a day. Prayer helps move you up the ladder of holiness as it transforms you and the environment around you. With prayer, you get this positive energy around you that would just synchronize everything in your life making nature to work in your favour. With much prayer, you would be a able to understand God the more and see his will in everything.
You would need to test for the effectiveness of your prayer and see if it is really working for you. To do this, try and ask God for a specific thing and write down that request in a diary. Wait for it to happen and when it does, you would know that your prayers are working. A lot of people just pray and they end up forgetting what they asked for so it's a good thing to remind yourself of God's blessings to you when they do happen
